Rio de Onor is one of the most emblematic villages in Bragança and in the Montesinho Natural Park, having been elected, in 2017, the 7 Wonder of Portugal – village in a protected area. Crossed by the border with Spain, on one side, is Rio de Onor, on the other, Rihonor de Castilla, so they say “one village, two countries”!
The Montesinho Natural Park is one of the largest natural parks of the 12 existing in the country. It is located in the Region of Trás-os-Montes (Northeast Transmontano) covering the northern part of the municipalities of Bragança and Vinhais, which are part of the so-called Terra Fria Transmontana. The two large existing massifs stand out in the park, the Serra da Coroa (to the west) and the Serra de Montesinho (to the east), which gives the Park its name.
