The Vinhais Biological Park is a public facility installed, by the Vinhais City Council, in the heart of Montesinho Natural Park, more precisely in the old forest nursery of Vidoeira, in Prada, in the Parish of Vila Verde, just 3km from Vila de Vinhais. In a route of approximately 1km, the visitor will have the opportunity to see the approximately 30 species of animals. In addition, it has a huge diversity of plants as well as three interpretive centers: the Núcleo Vida de Lobo; The Mycological Center; The Interpretive Center for Portuguese Autochthonous Races.
The toponym of this village comes from the Latin term monumenta, which refers us to something that reminds us of the past: megalithic monuments, tombs, graves, ancient fortifications and prehistoric constructions. In this sense, it seems clear that the village owes its name to the Castro da Cigadonha, which is a little below the village, to the south, or to a dolmen, already destroyed, but which managed to leave evidence of its existence by lending its name to a watercourse called Ribeira d'Anta that runs next to the village.
The houses of this village are surprising due to the compact nucleus of constructions in rough granite from the region and gabled roofs, radiating contrasting tones with the color of the surrounding landscape and demonstrating the harmonious integration of man in the environment.
